Taxi operators warned to be vigilant during festive season, especially in evenings
The Transport Operators Development Sustainable Services is calling on its members in the public transport sector to be extra careful about who they transport after 6 o’clock in the evenings during this festive season.
In a press release yesterday, the organisation said indicators showed that there was a major target on taxi drivers, especially in the St Catherine area where several operators have being held up, robbed and vehicle taken,
The release said the latest incident happened on Wednesday night in the Portmore area, where a well-known operator was held up, robbed, his throat slashed and his car taken.
It said the sector is under siege from all angles, with no end in sight.
It says drivers should be very vigilant in their operations, refrain from carrying strange persons at nights, and communicate with other operators at all times.
