Steady increase seen in fires caused by defective electrical wiring - Fire Brigade
The Jamaica Fire Brigade is reporting that over the past three years there has been a steady increase in residential fires caused by defective electrical wiring.
As a result, acting Assistant Commissioner of the Jamaica Fire Brigade, Emilio Ebanks is urging members of the public to pay attention to the electrical wiring around their homes, especially those that have not been inspected in 5 years.
According to the Fire Brigade, there were 68 residential fires caused by faulty electrical wiring in 2014.
However, the agency says that number increased to 89 in 2015 and 128 last year.
Ebanks notes that during the Christmas season there is an increase in the consumption of electricity, which can result in a fire where there is faulty electrical wiring.
He is appealing to members of the public to have the electrical wiring around their homes checked by a licensed electrician.
