Health Minister Dr Christopher Tufton has explained to persons concerned about the scaled down operation of the Chapelton Community Hospital in Clarendon that the step had to be taken to avoid any risk to patients and staff.

He was speaking at a town-hall meeting on Tuesday that was called to address complaints by residents about limited access to the hospital.

A section of the hospital has been closed for repairs.

Tufton told residents that during the period of the closure they will have access to an ambulance for emergency cases, especially at nights.

He said the works are expected to be completed in another six months.

Tufton said the contractor has been told very strongly that he should move quickly to ensure the work is completed within time, specification and budget.
