The Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) is delaying the fare increase for its premium express service until the end of March 2018, pending a review.

The increase was due to take effect on January 1.

Meanwhile, JUTC Managing Director Paul Abrahams, says effective January 15, the company will reintroduce the mandatory use of Smartercard on its premium service.

"This means no cash will be taken from passengers. We are therefore encouraging commuters to abide by the rules and apply for their Smartercard which is safe and convenient," he said.

The JUTC says its premium express service offers more comfort than other forms of transport.

It’s aimed at commuters who do not mind paying higher fares for a more comfortable and direct journey to their destinations.
