45-year-old man held with cocaine fined $1.5 million
A St Catherine man who the police say was held with cocaine valued at over $150 million has been fined a total of $1.5 million following his conviction on drug charges.
Paul Raphael, a 49 year old stevedore, was fined $1 million or 12 months in prison for trafficking cocaine and $500,000 or 12 months in prison for dealing in cocaine.
He was admonished and discharged for the offence of possession of cocaine by Parish Court Judge Sancia Burrell, who handed down the fines in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court yesterday.
Raphael was arrested by detectives from the Police Narcotics Division during an operation along Bay Farm Road in St Andrew last September.
The police say cocaine weighing approximately 95 kilogram, with a street value of $150 million, was found during a search of his vehicle.
