Several homes and roadways in Portland flooded after overnight rains
Several homes and roadways in Portland have been flooded as heavy overnight rains wreak havoc across sections of the parish.
Reports reaching our news centre are that several homes in Spring Garden, close to Buff Bay, have been flooded.
As the rainfall continues, residents are now fearful that with the nearby river could overflow its banks, causing wide scale damage to crops, live stock and property.
Meanwhile, the National Works Agency (NWA) reports that large boulders are now blocking the roadway in Moore Town.
Up to late afternoon, the NWA said roadways in Berrydale, Cooper's Hill, Durham Gap and Shrewsbury were also impassable due to flooding.
The agency appealed to motorists in these areas to exercise caution.
There were reports of multiple land slippages in the Rio Grande valley, where residents in several communities, including Mill Bank, Seamans Valley, and Comfort Castle, are now marooned.
It's reported that the heavy rains are also preventing first responders from visiting affected communities.
There were also reports of flooding in parts of St Mary.
The NWA says a section of the roadway in Junction was deteriorating.
It says small vehicles will experience challenges travelling in the area and urged motorists to exercise extreme caution.
