“I did not resign. You can quote me on that,” George Quallo told The Gleaner.

Police Commissioner George Quallo is rejecting a Jamaica Observer report that he is leaving the force.

“I did not resign. You can quote me on that,” Quallo told The Gleaner a short while ago.

Asked whether he was fired, Quallo replied: “I was not fired.”

However, he said he could not immediately respond to any further question as he was in a meeting.

Quallo this morning met with the National Security Minister Robert Montague.

The National Security Ministry said the meeting centred on the murder spike, his plan going forward, and the embarrassing New Year’s Day airport road gridlock.

More than 30 people have been murdered since the start of the year.

In the meantime, there has been more pressure on the police since the New Year’s Day traffic jam along the Palisadoes strip during a party called Sandz.

The congestion, which lasted for several hours, resulted in lengthy flight delays and also saw hundreds of people missing their flights.
