The absence of social a enquiry report has delayed the court case of the St Thomas mother who was seen in a video beating her daughter with a machete.

The case was called up in the Morant Bay Parish Court this morning.

The court was told the report was not ready.

The case was then rescheduled to February 9 at which time the judge would make a decision as to sentencing.

At the previous court appearance woman's lawyer has asked the court to indicate what sentence it would impose if she were to plead guilty.

The 44-year-old mother is charged with cruelty to a child.

She was charged by the police on October 6 and was subsequently offered bail.

The video shows the partially nude mother beating the girl violently with a machete while cursing expletives.

The police said their investigation revealed that the incident happened last year.
