Gov't looking to retire corrupt cops
National Security Minister Robert Montague says the government will be seeking to use a revamped Early Retirement Scheme to rid the Jamaica Constabulary Force of corrupt cops.
Speaking in Parliament yesterday, he said corruption in the police force remains a significant challenge.
He argued that most cops are law abiding patriotic Jamaicans but a few are corrupt or will not do their jobs and are not being held accountable to the extent that they should be.
Montague said the new policy is aimed at responding to calls for those corrupt cops to be removed from the Force.
He said the new policy is with the commissioner of police.
Montague said the Ministry of National Security has identified the funds necessary to underwrite this activity and is prepared to ask the Ministry of Finance for more.
