Despite the restrictions imposed by the security forces during the state of public emergency, the Montego Bay chamber of Commerce and Industry (MBCCI) says the much anticipated annual fundraiser Food Fashion and Dance, (FFAD) will not be postponed.

This event, which has become a staple in western Jamaica, will be staged on February 3, 2018, at the Shoppes De Rose Hall at 6:30 p.m., and will see members of the corporate community hitting the catwalk, while the finest in culinary fare will be on offer from the leading hotels and eateries.

Guest appearances

Special guest appearances will be made by Miss Universe runner-up Davina Bennett, and Davalyn Swaby, Miss Jamaica Festival Queen.

The Hatfield Dance Group, the Evolution Dance Group, Children of the Drums, well-known Montegonians and a surprise act will provide entertainment.

Part proceeds will be in aid of the Jamaica Boxing Board of Control's Gloves over Guns initiative, a project that targets marginalised youth under the Fight for Peace's Safer Community programme that has been in existence in Kingston for the past three years, with some 214 youngsters impacted weekly.

The JBBC is in need of $5 million to establish the Montego Bay Boxing Gym on the grounds of the Montego Bay Cricket Club, which is offering rent-free accommodation over a four-year period.

The projection is that more than 19,000 youth will be impacted through the initiative.

"It is partnerships like this that will bring success in St James. The Gloves Over Guns initiative is not just about boxing, it is one that encompasses love, discipline and respect," said MBCCI President T'Shura Gibbs.

"Programmes like Gloves over Guns, which imparts much-needed structure and helps to channel energy in a positive way, are initiatives that the chamber want to be aligned to."

Participants for the Gloves over Guns initiative will be selected through the Peace Management Initiative.
