Director General for International Cooperation and Development in the European Commission, Stefano Manservisi, is to lead a high-level delegation to Jamaica today.

Foreign affairs minister, Kamina Johnson Smith, says he’ll be here until tomorrow for regional and bilateral talks government representatives from Jamaica and the wider Caribbean.

She says his visit comes at an important juncture, especially as the region prepares for a new chapter in development co-operation between the European Union and the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) Group.

A highlight of the visit will be the grant financing signing ceremony involving the IDB and the Government of Jamaica.

The grant will support a multimillion-dollar energy management and efficiency programme.

Today, Manservisi will deliver a public lecture titled: 'The EU and the Caribbean: a proposal for a modern partnership beyond 2020' at the University of the West Indies.

Manservisi’s visit is the first to Jamaica by a High-Level EU representative in eleven years.

He’ll be here until tomorrow.

The European Union is the world’s largest grant donor and has committed to providing €46 million to Jamaica between 2014 and 2020.
