PNP names primary school principal as candidate for St Andrew North West by-election
The People’s National Party (PNP) has named educator Keisha Hayle as its candidate for the by-election in North West St Andrew.
The announcement, which was made today, sets up a contest with the Jamaica Labour Party’s candidate, Dr Nigel Clarke.
Both candidates are seeking to replace Derrick Smith, who resigned recently after serving as Member of Parliament for the constituency for nearly three decades.
Hayle is the Principal of Padmore Primary School, located in St Andrew.
She gained national attention in 2016 after she led the transformation of Padmore Primary School from a failing institution.
In a statement today, the PNP said Miss Hayle plans to promote the interests of residents in the constituency by creating a political machinery that will cater to their economic, political, social, infrastructural needs.
