After 182 words, seven contestants are through to the finals of the 59th annual Gleaner Spelling Bee Competition now underway at Television Jamaica studios in St Andrew.

Each has gone through with two handicaps, meaning, each person has two chances only, to misspell words.

The finalists are:

Nathaniel Stone - Clarendon
Rajive Campbell - St Catherine
Ashleigh Jarrett - Kingston
Assana Thompson - St Andrew
Justin Ridgard - St Ann

Seasoned Spelling Bee finalist, Assana Thompson who represents St. Andrew, said that despite her experience, she is still nervous.

"I am a bit nervous, because you never know which words are going to come at you, but I guess I just have to keep myself calm throughout," she said.
