Samuda targets $1 billion from upcoming budget, wants farm roads repaired
Agriculture Minister Karl Samuda says he will be pushing to have a minimum of $1 billion allocated in the upcoming budget to repair more cane and farm roads as well as to purchase equipment for small farmers.
Samuda made the announcement during a recent tour of several farms and farm roads in St Mary.
He says the $1 billion being sought by his ministry would represent a 100 per cent increase on the allocation in the current budget to repair farm roads.
Samuda notes that without proper infrastructure farmers will not be able to ply their trade efficiently.
The agriculture minister says he will also be seeking funding to purchase equipment for farmers cultivating small acres of land and who have challenges accessing the inputs that would enable them to operate more efficiently.
