ZOSO extended in Denham Town, Mount Salem
The House of Representatives has approved a 60-day extension of the zones of special operations in Mount Salem, St James and Denham Town, Kingston.
The zones were extended at the request of Prime Minister Andrew Holness.
Holness noted that there has been no report of violent crimes in the zones since they were declared last year.
But he said the extension was needed to complete the 'build' aspect of the 'Clear, hold and build' strategy.
Opposition Leader, Dr Peter Phillips, said he supported the extension, but questioned what measurable outcomes are being used to define the various stages.
He said without information on the markers to be achieved at each phase there is no way to know when a zone should be discontinued.
Denham Town was declared a ZOSO on October 17 and has already been extended once.
It’s the second extension for the Mount Salem ZOSO which was declared on September 1.
