Teen moms' centre coming for St Elizabeth

Published:Monday | February 19, 2018 | 9:52 AM

The Government is to spend $19.3 million to build a home for teen moms in St Elizabeth, which will serve the southwest section of the island.

The Santa Cruz Outreach Centre will be operated by the Women’s Centre of Jamaica Foundation, an agency of the Ministry of Gender.

The money is outlined in the 2018-19 Estimates of Expenditure, now before the House of Representatives.

The establishment of the centre is also expected to expand the Foundation’s activities in St Elizabeth.

It is anticipated that the outreach centre will be constructed in the upcoming financial year.

Another target is for work to be done to increase the number of teen mothers attending the centre and the number of teen mothers being reintegrated into the formal school system.
