Cane cutters contracted to Golden Grove Sugar Factory take industrial action
Workers contracted to cut cane at the Golden Grove Sugar Factory in St Thomas have taken industrial action.
The workers have been off the job since yesterday in protest over what they say are poor working conditions.
The cane cutters are contracted to Sankar Limited, which has a contract with the sugar factory to undertake field operations.
The workers were previously employed to the sugar estate but were made redundant about two years ago.
They subsequently obtained jobs with Sankar.
The cane cutters say they are upset at their present work conditions and want them to be improved.
They are demanding a meeting.
