A policeman died this morning in a motor vehicle crash on the P.J. Patterson Highway on the border of St Catherine and Clarendon.

He has been identified as 30-year-old Anthony Bailey, a police constable who was attached to the Old Harbour Police Station.

Constable Bailey reportedly lost control of the Toyota Corolla motor car he was driving minutes after 5 o'clock, which hit an embankment and overturned.

The Gleaner/Power 106 News Centre understands that the policeman was thrown from the vehicle upon impact and ran over by other vehicles on the highway, severing the head from the body.

Three magazines with a total of 33 rounds of ammunition were also found on the scene of the crash, which caused a pile-up of traffic on the westerly-bound side of the highway.
