Schedule: Early closure for St Catherine businesses under state of emergency
The police have released mandatory closing hours for businesses and community facilities in the St Catherine North division, now under a State of Public Emergency.
The State of Public Emergency, initially for 14 days was declared yesterday by Prime Minister Andrew Holness.
He said it will target the communities of Spanish Town, Bog Walk and Linstead.
Since the start of the year, 48 people have been killed in the St Catherine North Police Division, up from 30 for the corresponding period last year.
Closing hours for all businesses in Spanish Town, Linstead and Bog Walk:
* Community Recreational Areas - by 6:00 p.m.
* Cook shops, supermarkets, groceries and haberdasheries - by 7:00 p.m.
* Spirit-licensed premises - by 9:00 p.m.
* Service stations - by 10:00 p.m.
* Clubs, fast food outlets - by 10:00 p.m.
The police say the curtailment of activities will be done in accordance with, and with respect to human rights, and citizens are encouraged to cooperate with the security forces, as they seek to restore public peace and general good order in the society.
However, they are warning that violators will be prosecuted.
