Some Hope Pastures residents without power, JPS blames outdated underground system
The Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) says 23 of its customers in Hope Pastures, St Andrew are now without electricity due to an outdated underground power system used to supply the community.
JPS says the system, which was installed over 50 years ago, has come to the end of its useful life despite repeated repairs and rehabilitation.
The company says it has already established an overhead electricity network to facilitate connections for residents now without power.
The light and power company is encouraging residents to have a licensed electrician install their overhead electricity supply and have their premises recertified by the Government Electrical Inspectorate.
The appeal from JPS comes amid a pending Supreme Court decision on an application brought by 94 Hope Pastures residents who are seeking a court order to prevent the company from installing and supplying overhead electricity in their community.
The court completed hearing legal arguments last year November and reserved judgement.
