Reid, Vaz among four caretakers confirmed by JLP's central executive
The central executive of the ruling Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) has confirmed Ruel Reid, who is currently a senator and the education minister, as the caretaker for the Northwest St Ann constituency.
Reid was among four caretakers confirmed at a meeting held today at the JLP's Belmont Road headquarters in New Kingston.
Reid, a former president of the Jamaica Teachers' Association and principal of Jamaica College, replaces former member of parliament Othneil Lawrence who lost to the People's National Party's Dr Dayton Campbell in the 2016 general election.
Ann Marie Vaz, the wife of current West Portland MP Daryl Vaz, was also confirmed as the caretaker for the East Portland constituency.
According to JLP General Secretary Dr Horace Chang, "Vaz has proven herself to be very popular among the working class within the constituency through her philanthropic contributions".
The other confirmed caretakers were Robert Miller for South East St Catherine and Delroy Slowley for North East St Elizabeth.
Chang stated that the party also discussed the government’s economic policy which continues to show positive indicators.
He also announced that plans commenced at the meeting for the annual conference which is to be held in November of this year along with other general party matters.
