Traffic restrictions for sections of Mandela highway, Marcus Garvey Drive this weekend
The National Works Agency (NWA) is urging motorists who plan on travelling to downtown, Kingston this Saturday, July 14, via Marcus Garvey Drive and Water Lane to use East Avenue or Industrial Terrace as a section of Water Lane will be closed to facilitate drainage improvement works in the vicinity of the Rubis Service Station.
Acting Communication Manager at the NWA Ramona Lawson says as a result of the closure Water Lane will be inaccessible beyond the Port Royal Street intersection.
Lawson explains that the works involve excavating a section of the roadway to replace a pipe culvert.
The works are expected to begin at 8 a.m. and should be completed by 8 p.m.
The area will be backfilled and is to be paved at a later date.
Meanwhile, the NWA says this Saturday and Sunday similar trenching works will be carried out along a section of the westbound carriageway of the Mandela Highway at the Tom Cringle Drive intersection.
The agency says motorists may experience delays as the leftmost lane will be restricted to facilitate pipe-laying works.
Persons intending to use both locations are being reminded to obey warning signs and the instruction of flag persons.
