Marketing specialist, writer honoured

New York-based marketing specialist and Gleaner writer Anthony Turner was recently honoured at a glitzy awards function at Sandals South Coast during the Homecoming Week of St Peter's Anglican Church in Petersfield, Westmoreland.

Turner was recognised for his community work and for outstanding achievement in international entrepreneurship.

Commenting on the honour, Turner said that he was humbled to be recognised for his range of charitable work relating to Jamaica, including his efforts to benefit the parish of Westmoreland.

 

'Truly Humbled'

 

"In addition to being surprised, I am truly humbled and touched to receive this prestigious award that is coming from the community where I grew up. It is very special. I have never needed an incentive to help others," he said.

Turner is the co-founder of International Media & Global Entertainment Services and a marketing strategist.

Turner attended Ardenne High School in St Andrew, where he excelled academically and represented his school in volleyball, football, and cricket. He continued his studies in New York and was awarded a bachelor's degree and a Master of Engineering degree from the City College of the City University of New York.

Turner remains passionate about his parish and its issues and has consistently aided and assisted whenever possible.

In 2015, he assisted a medical mission stationed at the Savanna-la-Mar Hospital to provide free surgical, dental and medical care for the poor. Turner facilitated the shipment of a much-needed EKG machine from the US that was donated by the Heart To Help foundation to the Savanna-la-Mar Hospital.

For the past three years, he has also solicited help on behalf of Petersfield High School to enable the students' participation in the annual Penn Relays in Philadelphia, USA.
