Keep your guns safe, police tell licensed firearm holders
The police are urging licensed firearm holders to be careful at all times and fully comply with the safety guidelines for the use and care of their firearms.
Licensed firearm holders are also reminded to adhere to the rules governing the safekeeping and storage of firearms, especially when they travel or visit venues where firearms are not allowed.
“Leaving weapons in safes at home that do not have proper security and leaving weapons in motor vehicles are both unsafe practices that can result in the weapon being stolen and licensed firearm holders are urged to desist from both,” the police advised in a statement.
“These rules are especially important as these weapons pose a serious risk when in the possession of criminals and other unauthourised people,” the police added.
The police warn that such practices could result in licensed firearm holders being charged for breaches of the Firearms Act.
