St James man pleads guilty to illegal possession of firearm

St James tiler 31-year-old George ‘Blane’ Grant, of a Maffota district, pleaded guilty to illegal possession of a firearm in the Western Regional Gun Court yesterday and is to sentenced on October 19.

Grant was remanded until his sentencing.

The Freeport Police reported that about 6:00 a.m. on Sunday, July 29, a joint police/military team carried out an operation at a house occupied by Grant and his stepfather.  

During the search, they found a .45 pistol loaded with six .45 rounds and an empty 9mm magazine wrapped in a black plastic bag. 

Both were taken into custody.

Grant subsequently admitted to owning the weapon and the ammunition and was charged.

His stepfather was then released.
