In light of recent concerns about dog attacks, The Gleaner spoke with Pamela Lawson, Executive Director of the Jamaica Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, about how to best train 'man's best friend' to avoid an incident.

Those concerns emerged after 66-year-old Whittington Cole was viciously attacked and killed by the dogs while walking in his community in Hampton Green, Spanish Town, St. Catherine on July 21.

Since then, there have been calls for dog owners to properly train and care for their pets.

Lawson recommends, among other things, that dog owners must first establish obedience with their pets.

She laments that abusive tactics should never be used when training a dog.
