The Andrew Holness-led administration has awarded a contract valued at approximately US$7.4 million to buy patrol vehicles for the Jamaica Defence Force.

The Government has indicated that the 159 vehicles, which are to be provided by Toyota Jamaica Limited, are not purpose-built for military applications.

But, it said that it is going ahead with the purchase as “the selected Toyota model, with modification, has proved to be very effective for the purposes of the Jamaica Defence Force.”

Details of the contract were disclosed in a Ministry Paper that was tabled in Parliament on Tuesday.
