Two guns seized in Westmoreland, teen taken into custody

A teenager is now in custody after an illegal firearm and nearly 50 rounds of ammunition were seized in Westmoreland yesterday.

The teen’s identity is being withheld.

The 9mm pistol, which was seized in the community of Darliston, is one of two illegal firearms seized in the parish yesterday.

The police report that the 9mm Luger pistol, with a magazine containing 13 rounds of ammunition, was found during a search of premises in Darliston.

According to the police, 33 rounds of ammunition were also found during the search, which resulted in the teen being taken into custody.

The police say several hours later a 9mm Stalker pistol with an empty magazine was seized at premises on Norman Manley Boulevard.

No one was arrested in connection with this seizure.

Since the start of the year 107 persons have been killed in Westmoreland, eight less that the figure recorded over the corresponding period last year.

The Westmoreland Police are urging to residents to come forward and assist them with their investigations into criminal activities in their communities by contacting the Savanna-la-Mar Police at 876-955-2536, police emergency number 119, Crime Stop at 311 or 811 or the nearest police station.
