Grange presents Luton Shelton with $5M towards medical expenses
Sport Minister Olivia Grange has presented footballer Luton Shelton with a cheque for five million dollars from the Sports Development Foundation towards his medical expenses.
The presentation was made during the Red Stripe Premier League football match at the Harbour View Stadium in St Andrew last night.
Shelton, 32, has been battling amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), more commonly known as Lou Gehrig's disease.
ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord.
News of his condition emerged earlier this month and since then he has received a wave of public support.
