JITSA announces new board
The Jamaica Information Technology Services Alliance (JITSA) announced its new executive board for the 2018-2020 term at its recently held members' meeting in St Andrew.
The new executive members include Dr Wayde Marr, president, Neil Abrahams, vice-president, resellers' products and services; Mervyn Eyre, vice-president, IT consulting and advisory services; Melarka Williams, vice-president, software developers; Pat Tomlinson, treasurer; Vitra Gopee, secretary; Stacey Halsall-Peart, director; David Allen, director; and Dr Sean Thorpe, which is reserved for the current president of the Jamaica Computer Society.
Marr noted that JITSA's focus will be on creating stakeholder value for the public through its members and in support of the national agenda. JITSA will support national strategies for digital adoption with the intent of creating new value. Businesses will be guided and supported in leveraging information technology to derive new efficiencies using cutting-edge products, innovative processes and organisation methods.
The goal will be to build an ecosystem characterised by innovation and growth, supported and sustained through ever-growing technical capacity and capabilities, resulting in the perpetuation of demand-generation for digital products and services.
Given the expectations of an increase in expected foreign-direct investment and new investments by local companies, the matter of capacity will become increasingly critical. Technology transfer and education/training of members will therefore be necessary to ensure the growth of capacity within local firms and in the development and/or upgrade of local talent throughout the industry. JITSA will be proactive in efforts to build techno-business knowledge, upgrading current technical competencies and developing future skills among its membership and the wider IT Services Provider community.
Aside from the intangible benefits of branding by way of association with the Alliance, members can expect to derive direct benefits from the arrangement of business and technical training, the facilitation of collaboration among members, and the promotion of opportunities for private- and public-sector engagements.
