Police search for driver in hit-and-run crash that killed pedestrian

Police investigators are trying to locate the driver of a red Suzuki motorcar that was involved in a hit-and-run crash which left one man dead.

The crash happened along Half Way Tree Road, in St Andrew yesterday.

The dead man has been identified as Keith Wheeler.

Since the start of the year 301 persons have died in motor vehicle crashes, an eight per cent increase when compared with the corresponding period last year.

It also marks the sixth straight year that Jamaica has recorded over 300 road deaths in a calendar year.

The police report that shortly before 9p.m. Wheeler was attempting to cross the road when he was hit and then run over by the motorcar.

The vehicle did not stop.

Wheeler was pronounced dead at hospital.
