The three students benefited from the Palisadoes Foundation third annual Calico Challenge, a summer work and study programme for students studying computer science in Jamaica. Participating students get paid a stipend of US$1,500 for their successful progress, which they receive incrementally based on the achievement of their designated milestones. The NCB Foundation (NCBF) sponsored US$5,000 towards the initiative, of which US$3,000 was designated for two Jamaican students to get a mentored internship opportunity, and US$2,000 in support of the Palisadoes Foundation Research Grant programme, which seeks to provide aid to Jamaican universities that have a faculty dedicated to software engineering research, with an emphasis on open-source coding.
