Trump expected to make 'major announcement' shortly
United States (US) President Donald Trump is expected to make a "major announcement" shortly on his long proposed Mexican border wall.
A stalemate between Trump and Democratic leaders over funding for the wall has resulted in the longest government shutdown in American history.
The partial shutdown, which is now in its fifth week, has left approximately 800,000 federal workers unpaid.
Trump, in a brief exchange with reporters earlier today, gave nothing away about his announcement.
"I think it'll be an important statement," he said.
Reports suggest that Trump will deliver the speech from the White House at 4p.m.
Correspondents believe he may offer a concession on so-called Dreamers, a reference to persons who entered the US illegally as children.
