One person was shot and killed and two others injured this morning as gang violence again erupts in sections of August Town, eastern St Andrew.

The shootings reportedly occurred in a section of the community known as Angola. The identity of the dead man is unknown at this time. Unconfirmed reports are that one of the injured is a university student.

The police have confirmed the latest flare-up of violence and have since dispatched a team who is now patrolling the community. The hilly community now resembles a "ghost town" as the lawmen comb the area for clues about the latest shootings. A section of a road where it is believed the shootings occurred has been cordoned off by the police.

Since the start of the year, August Town has been the scene of numerous shootings as rival gangs trade bullets.

A curfew was imposed by the police in the community earlier this month.
