Garbage collection across the island is expected to improve with the commissioning of 12 new compactor trucks by the National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA).

The trucks, valued at approximately US$1.75 million, were handed over to the authority’s executive director Audley Gordon at the offices of the Ministry of Local Government and Community Development on Hagley Park Road in St Andrew.

Gordon said that the vehicles represent a boost to the NSWMA’s fleet and expressed gratitude to the Ministry.

“We are very grateful for these trucks as they will allow us to deliver efficient service in all our regions. My commitment is that we will account for and take very good care of them,” he said.

The Metropolitan Parks and Markets will receive four of the units, the Western Parks and Markets Limited is to receive three units, with two units each being allocated to the Southern Parks and Markets and the North East Parks and Markets respectively.
