The Jamaica Labour Party’s candidate for East Portland Ann-Marie Vaz described her nomination today as historic.

Vaz pointed out that she is the first woman to be nominated in a by-election in the constituency.

She was nominated at 11:46 this morning and was supported by Prime Minister and JLP leader Andrew Holness.

Vaz is going up against the People's National Party's Damion Crawford.

The Portland East seat became vacant after incumbent Member of Parliament Dr Lynvale Bloomfield was murdered at his Passley Gardens home in the parish on February 2.
