Wellington addresses Calabar athletes' alleged assault on teacher
Following reports that two student-athletes from Calabar High School have allegedly assaulted a teacher, Keith Wellington, vice president of the Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA) has sought to clarify his stance on the matter.
Wellington indicated to The Gleaner yesterday that students who are charged with an offence, but have not been convicted, are eligible to compete in ISSA’s competitions if they remain students at their respective institutions, as according to principles.
But Wellington says his views are not the position of ISSA on the Calabar incident, as it was not informed of the situation yesterday.
A teacher at Calabar is threatening to press charges against the two student-athletes in question for physically assaulting him in December. According to him, the school failed to properly discipline the student-athletes.
