#EastPortlandBattle | Final ballot counting under way
The final count of yesterday’s by-election Portland Eastern is now under way at the Port Antonio Courthouse.
It is being supervised by the leadership of the Electoral Office Jamaica and monitored by representatives of the People’s National Party (PNP) and Jamaica Labour Party (JLP).
The preliminary results from yesterday had the JLP’s Ann-Marie Vaz with a 306-vote margin over the PNP’s Damion Crawford as she polled 9,917.
Crawford amassed 9,611 which was not enough to extend the party’s 30-year stranglehold on the constituency.
The electoral office reported that there was a 53.7 per cent voter turnout.
