A day of pampering and pageantry

Pageant of Hope, second time to Jamaica, landed at the Genesis Academy in Kingston on Saturday, December 13.

The non-competitive pageant, hosted by 'Has Been Beauty Queens' (HBBQ) Inc, is spearheaded by the former 2007 Miss GA Teen USA and actress Jena Sims and her HBBQ team of queens who participated in a pageant at some time. The youngsters with special needs were given the opportunity to celebrate who they are and to take their minds off hospital visits and treatment - teaching them to let their inner beauty shine - in this event, everyone is a winner.

The event attracted 22 participants from Liberty Academy and Prep, Genesis Academy, and Windsor schools, and were treated to an afternoon of pampering - manicure, make-up, nails, massage, taught the 'pageant walk' and wave, and conducted fun interview sessions.

Some of the participants between the ages of nine and 32, though they were trained by the HBBQ ladies, were still shy, while others were not short on confidence that had family and friends in the audience screaming and cheering for them.

Excitement spread through the room as parents, guardians and friends were extremely proud of their loved ones.

Each participant modelled with one of the ladies from HBBQ Inc and won prizes under categories that described their personality - most handsome, talented, fancy, cheerful, huggable, confident, glamorous, funny, best personality, dressed and smile, among others. And at the end of the day, four Princesses and three Princes were crowned and sashed.

Nine-year-olds Kahla Celestine and Angel Seymour, 18-year-old Tasheanna Bailey and 19-year-old Kathryn Berhasern were all crowned Princesses of Hope. 15-year-olds Jordon Gossop and Dorian Ridge, and 25-year-old Sheldon Maragh were crowned Princes of Hope.
