De-Cluttering For Spring

Published:Tuesday | April 7, 2015 | 12:00 AM

Spring is finally here, so you know what that means? It's time for some good old fashioned Spring Cleaning. From your home to your office, even your personal life could use a detox. Here are some places that we are sure could use some 'sprucing' up. Let's get started.

At Home

Home is where the heart is, and we all know it is best to keep your heart 'clean like a whistle'.

Let's start in the kitchen, where unused pots and pans can usually occupy much needed space and become a breeding ground for insects and termites. Purge your cupboards of the unwanted old pots and pans and store those frequently used in an orderly fashion.

Saving up those tinned products for a rainy day, when the sun is always shining is just another way you absorb space that you could use for storing appliances out of sight. Your kitchen countertop should not be home to items such as blenders, toasters and other cooking equipment.

Are you still hanging on those jeans from the 90s? It's time to take a deep breath and let it go. They say fashion is an evolving wheel, but we know you no longer and maybe never will fit into those jeans again. Start with the items that you definitely don't wear so you don't need to keep, and move your way up from there. Be sure to put the ones that are in good condition in separate containers from those that are worn and torn. You also do some good in the process and give some of these to charities such as the Salvation Army.

At Work

Still have folders, books and papers claiming space on your desk? It is good time to re evaluate your working space. When you are going through, think does this item serve any real purpose? If the answer is no, please escort it to the nearest bin immediately.

Organise desk drawers and/or lockers with items that are important at the top and ensure that your computer and hard copy files are well organised and easily accessible. Delete those that are not necessary. It may also be time to go through that card holder. Toss out those who have left or changed position so your up to date with your contacts.

Personal Life

De-cluttering does not only apply to physical spaces. It also applies to interpersonal relationships as well. Whether it's that pesky ex lover or that negative friends who drain your joy or energy, a good cleanse is always needed. Much like how you detox your body for good health, the negative energy from these individuals can also slow you down and prove toxic to your mental and physical well being.

We suggest you do some soul searching and eliminate those persons from your circle who do not contribute anything positive or productive to your life and replace them with like minded individuals who will uplift you and increase your spirit.

So do not procrastinate. Get started now.
