Pulse's new runway star
Pulse's new runway star
Pulse's rising star, Alicia Burke, is one of the new queens of the runway in Europe.
In her first season, with less than three months under her career belt, she has appeared in several shows at London Fashion Week, including the coveted Vivienne Westwood collection.
The best was yet to come. Without casting fo shows in Milan, she was booked directly on an exclusive by Bottega Veneta. No sooner had she returned to London from Milan, Paris came calling on another exclusive for Prada's MiuMiu, undoubtedly an amazing feat for the young model in her first show season without even the benefit of the New York collections, given she is not yet working in that market.
However, none of this is surprising for a model who booked Harper's Bazaar in her first month and French Vogue in her second after a slew of assignments for clients, including Bokra Asu, Central St Martins, Me and Em, House of Fraser, 1883 Magazine and Top Shop.
Since her short sojourn in London, Burke has also worked with one of Pop music's Grammy-winning artiste, the details of which cannot be disclosed at this time.
Burke has had a career dream start from winning the Caribbean Model Search Reality TV title, to being in high demand by the best agencies in cities across the globe. She is now with Europe's finest - Models 1 in London, Women in Milan and New York, and Supreme in Paris.
Agents in Sweden, Spain and Germany are all lining up for her signature. With this intense demand, it is no surprise she has become the darling of the world's leading photographers and editors with a slate of major editorials to roll out in the next two months.
Burke credits her grandmother for having a very strong influence on her, and whom, she noted, "has been the most important factor" in her life.
"She has been a source of inspiration for me, and I feel like I need to accomplish a lot in this business as she has encouraged me every step of the way. I want make her proud," stated the rising model.
The new model is already enjoying the jet-set life, having just returned from a gig in Stockholm.
"I am loving and soaking up every minute of this experience. I just want it to continue and get even better!"
Alicia joins a long line of Pulse Vogue stars which includes cover girls Lois Samuels and Jeneil Williams, multiple Vogue supermodels Sedene Blake, Jaunel McKenzie and Nadine Willis, as well as Lincoln Wynter, Oraine Barrett and Rochelle Watson, among others.
This immediate period is exciting for Pulse, with new stars such as Vogue and Elle model Francine James, Seventeen model Alysia Francis, and now Alicia Burke, beginning to stamp their class on international markets.
In addition, the global recognition received by supermodels Jeneil Williams and Nadine Willis at the end of 2015, have put an amazing year in context.
Vogue declared Williams and Willis to be two of five Jamaicans who changed the face of fashion. They were the only ones of the five to have been discovered, developed and managed by a Jamaican agency.
The others were Stacey McKenzie, Grace Jones and Robyn McPherson. Of the group, only Jeneil Williams is currently in the global model market, having had one of her best years in 2015.
