Slay this holiday
Christmas is upon us again and the holiday parties have begun. There is no other time of the year that nostalgia comes over us as much as Christmas, bringing an inner warmth from childhood memories, the spirit of giving and sharing takes us over and allows our inner beauty to shine through. Friends and family are trickling in from overseas, company staff parties are about to begin, invitations are being sent out for black-tie galas and cocktail events and that means it's time to get glammed up, even if for a girls' night out. We were privileged to be given the first look at Flirt Boutique's new holiday collection and have curated some of the hottest trends which will make you stand out at your next big event this season. Flirt Boutique is located at 184 Constant Spring Road, Kingston.
A visit to Oak Wine Bar and Lounge was the perfect spot for us to showcase some of the hottest trends for this year's holiday season. Located 8 Hillcrest Ave, Kingston, Oak is the perfect spot for little bites, wines and unique cocktails. Open to the public at 4 p.m. makes it a good spot to avoid rush-hour traffic after work and goes up until 12 a.m. during the week and up to 2 a.m. on the weekends. Director Lisa-Gay Chin said their most popular dish is the Dynamite Shrimp which pairs well with a Gin Bonita cocktail.
There is no better way to say holiday glam without sequins and all over paliettes, they are the base of building a holiday wardrobe and instantly glams up an outfit. This black body hugging mini dress features the popular plunging neckline which has appeared on every single runway, seen in dresses and blouses for the past few years. Sequins shown in a seductive wine colour is instantly sexy, the rosy hue softens as it is more muted than red perfect for the woman who wants to go bolder than black.
Echoing the season of gift giving, designers have added bow details to everything from blouses to tops to bags and shoes. Shown here is a two piece set featuring a cropped top with a statement bow and a structured pencil skirt in dominant red.
Paying tribute to ladylike details, designers have added embellishments to dresses, skirts and blazers while maintaining simple structured lines. A streamlined silhouette with embellishments strikes a good balance between strong and soft, and prevents the look from being too girly. This floral A-line number in a bold floral print features a sateen finish and will instantly own any room because of it's presence.
Sultry satin exudes an effortless elegance in this luminous metallic colour. Soft hair and romantic makeup completes the glammed up look, team with metallic strappy heels to balance the statement look.
Seen on the runways for summer to fall/winter collections suede has been a top pick from designers. Perfect for the cooler months, ultrasuede, the synthetic version of real leather suede is lightweight and stretchable thus making it more affordable and wearable. Suede no doubt, adds textural depth to our wardrobes. Pair suede leggings with lightweight off the shoulder sweaters featuring peekaboo cutouts. Suede fitted dresses with a longer length in deep olives and a warm tumeric colour will stand the test of time in a world of rotating trends.
Instantly add edge to your look with some leather elements this Christmas. Vegan leather, is another designer's top pick in fabric because unlike real leather it's lighter, stretchable, affordable and more humane. Leather, seen in black, camel and grey, leather pants, shorts, skirts and bomber jackets are all the rage this season. Be sure to balance leather with ladylike details to avoid a full-on grunge effect. Long sleeved bodysuit with plunging neckline in a kale-green colour softens black leather pants. A cozy ivory mock neck cropped sweater balances a pair of structured leather shorts.
