DIY Christmas decorations

There is only one week to go before Christmas. For many, the year has been rough, and the holiday has just snuck up suddenly. So, when it comes to decor, you might not have had the time or desire to be extravagant. You might also be working with a small budget and want a different look for the season.

Here are a few tips on how to decorate your home without spending a lot of money and time.

1 You can use glasses that might be gathering dust in your cupboards as beautiful centrepieces. You can turn them into vases by placing colourful stones at the base and miniature versions of seasonal flowers in them. This will give you a Christmas feel without the need for a major clean-up, removing Christmas trees and ornaments after the season is over.

2 Glass bottles and mason jars can also come in handy. You can use either puff paint or, if you have a steady hand, a glue gun, to write something cheerful or just decorate for texture. Then, you can spray them in gold, red or green to fill your home with Christmas cheer.

3 If you have holiday mugs from previous years stuck at the back of the cupboard, pull them out. Incorporate them into your decor. If they are plain, you can purchase each gold and silver Sharpies for approximately $100 and use to make them into almost anything you want.

4 You might have last year's ornaments in a box and a few wine glasses that you never use. Turn these glasses upside down over the ornaments and use the upturned base as a candle holder. See how easily you can transform your oldies into minimalist goodies?

5 Again, you can grab your mason jars and glasses and just place the extra ornaments in them. Grab a red or gold ribbon and tie around the glass, and place them at strategic points around the house.

6 Just a change in your curtains and bedding can lighten up and change the mood in a room. Choose whites and pastels and see how the spirit is transformed.

You do not have to break the bank to make it the most wonderful time of the year. Try some of our tips and have a very merry Christmas!
