Francine James ends the year on a bang

Published:Sunday | December 25, 2016 | 12:00 AM

Pulse star and multiple Vogue model Francine James has been turning heads since 2013 when she was declared the winner of the Pulse Caribbean Model Search. Her presence has only grown since her international debut at the Paris shows last year, grabbing prized assignments such as Elle, Marie Claire as well as German, Spanish and Italian Vogue editorials. Her covers include L'Official, CompanËre and Suitcase, as well as promo covers for John Lewis, among others.

Now she has copped the Tory Burch campaign in a fall season that is proving to be both exciting and rewarding. Interestingly, Tory Burch was shot at Round Hill in Montego Bay, Jamaica, which is a change from all her previous international assignments which were shot in several cities in Europe, Africa, Asia, or North America.

The award-winning, internationally acclaimed Tory Burch is yet another feather in the cap of the long-legged Jamaican beauty from Camperdown High, who graduated with nine CSECs to join the ranks of international model stars in Paris and never looked back. A world far removed from the comfort zone of the shy, deeply religious young woman whose sheltered life had hardly prepared her for the bright lights, glamour and glitter of the global fashion industry.

A past winner of Pulse's Caribbean Model Search, James, like so many others before her and others since, proves that the ability the event has to produce international models and supermodels. The long list includes: Lois Samuels, Kimberley Mais, Nadine Willis, Jaunel McKenzie, Jeneil Williams, Carla Campbell, Lincoln Wynter, Romae Gordon, Nell Robinson, Oraine Barrett, Angela Neil and Althea Laing and, in more recent times, Sedene Blake, Gaye McDonald and now mega star Alicia Burke.

To date, Francine's talent has led her through fashion centres such as Paris, Milan, Cape Town, New York, London (where she has done most of her many assignments), Stockholm, Hong Kong and Amsterdam, with new frontiers including Los Angeles to be added in the new year.

Her campaigns include assignments for some of fashion's iconic brands, including H&M, LNDR, Esprit, 1981, John Lewis, Gucci, Westfield, Vlisco, Ahlens, Todd Lyn, Vanessa Steward, Marios Schwab, Faith Connection and Olympia Le-Tan, among others.

James is yet another example that with talent and hard work anything is possible. She continues to be a force to be reckoned with and is looking forward to the challenges of 2017, even as she completes her final set of assignments for 2016. Her current options include new campaigns for John Lewis and Target.
