An Outlook on Apps: The Podcast Lifestyle
Many of the apps that we use are limited to Google, the likes on social media, and the games on our phones. Well, we want to show you how applications can help you with your day-to-day life outside of getting directions from Google Apps. This week we are sharing podcasts.
Podcasts are audio programmes or series that are made available for your listening pleasure. Irrespective of your interest or taste, there is a podcast out there that is for you.
Now, many of you, when you hear podcasts, think about radio programmes where people are interviewed or share their story. Others think it is like an audio documentary, and while in some cases this is true, it is so much more. The privilege you get from podcasts, is hearing the stories of people who you are interested in, or stories that are tailored to you instead of some random person talking about politics when you are more interested in volunteerism.
You get to filter and choose what you listen to. If you are an entrepreneur, blogger, music junkie, sports fanatic, self-care guru or struggling with depression and anxiety, or whether it be for leisure - like a book or an audio drama series that is your guilty pleasure - there is something out there for you.
There are podcasts like Anxiety Slayers that help individuals who struggle with anxiety, cope with it. Jalen and Jacoby by Jalen Rose and David Jacoby for NBA lovers; TED talks for everyone, as you will hear stories of controversial public figures to thought-provoking ideas. And there is the Tim Ferriss Show for entrepreneurs, without the mundane clinical approach. There are tips for writers and food enthusiasts, and there is no reason for you not to try it. You can listen while you go about your normal, daily routines.
How do you get started?
Pick a suitable podcast player. For Android users, you can start with Podcast Addict and Podcast Go. Both have free options, but you can pay US$2.99 to get an add-free version of Podcast Go. Both come highly recommended and have countless options as it pertains to your audio needs.
For Apple users, Overcast and Castro 2 are two of the most popularly used. These basically offer the same features as the Android options listed above. There are several other options for both platforms that are also free.
Next thing you do is search. Pick, 'read the bio' and see if it is what you are looking for and then listen. I am sure you might find yourself binge listening and soon, just waiting for another episode to help you with your start-up, to help you focus, to help you create that blog or just to relax. So hurry and hop aboard the podcast train.
