Skincare will always be of utmost importance to men and women across the world as it is the first thing people notice when they meet us. Morgan’s Creek is a three-year-old skincare line catering to everyone, both at ‘yard’ and abroad, who want only the best for their ‘bone coat’.

Thirty-six-year-old Joni-Bale Morgan said she started Morgan’s Creek after her last encounter with lupus. “I was in remission for awhile and then I got ill again. With lupus, the skin becomes very thin and sensitive to every and anything, so I needed to be sure I was getting only natural ingredients that are gentle on the skin. I once purchased from a friend who asked if I would be interested in learning, and she taught me how to make the products,” she recalled. Morgan said that she also used the learning process as physiotherapy because she didn’t want to spend any more time in the hospital. “I was in the hospital for three months and for two of those months, I was in a coma. I had to relearn how to do basic things like walking and using my hands,” she said.

Having graduated from St Hilda’s High School for Girls, the Ocho Rios native ventured to the hills of cool, cool Mandeville where she graduated from the Northern Caribbean University with a bachelor’s degree in management studies. Not stopping there, Morgan later received her master’s degree in international management from the University of London. “This was never what I imagined I would be doing. If someone told me 10 years ago that this is where I would be, I would’ve laughed them to scorn,” she said jokingly.

The Luxury Handmade Skin Products

Soaps, lotions, face wash, massage oils, eye creams, bath bombs, and toners, along with body scrubs and butters, are some of the products found when you open the doors of Morgan’s Creek, located at Shop 37A, Sovereign Centre, Kingston, Jamaica. All the products are made with various natural properties like turmeric, coconut oil, olive oil, sunflower oil, charcoal, shea butter, neem, oatmeal, and honey to aid and combat various skin conditions. All skin types are catered to – oily, dry, normal and combination. Scents like eucalyptus, peppermint, mango, pineapple and even Jolly Ranchers dance through your nostrils as you open and use each product. You may want to try the ‘Butt Naked’ lotion as it is a top-seller and flies off the shell in a giffy.

Challenges, Support and Advice

The road to get Morgan’s Creek to the place where it is now has not been easy and, like any other entrepreneur, Morgan has encountered her own struggles. She, however, has a strong support system that consists of her immediate family and friends who are always willing to chip in and give a helping hand whenever she needs it, which causes her to weather each storm and jump over every hurdle as they present themselves.

“Things will feel like they are going left when you want to go right, but if you are consistent and apply yourself, you will eventually see the light at the end of the tunnel,” she said.
