Shipping Association of Jamaica member company Maritime and Transport recently assisted in preparing a vessel for the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) as it coordinates the disaster effort for the Commonwealth of Dominica.

The vessel was equipped with much-needed consumer goods and supplies. It was also equipped with a mobile field kitchen and a reverse osmosis machine to convert salt water into potable drinking water.

The National Emergency Management Office of The Bahamas is assisting with transportation by providing the military vessel the HMBS LAWRENCE MAJOR. It also provided a crew of over 40 navy personnel, who will spend two weeks in Dominica. Using the field kitchen, they will provide over 1,000 meals daily.

Maritime and Transport joins several major shipping interests in Jamaica that have participated in the Dominica relief effort in recent weeks.
