US Ambassador Welcomed to Jamrock
It was truly the talk of the town at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel on Monday night as ambassadors, government officials and well-wishers all welcomed the newly appointed United States of America Ambassador to Jamaica, Luis G. Moreno.
Cocktails all around, a mingling frenzy ensued in the elegant ball room as warm conversations were intertwined with bouts of laughter.
Moreno, described as the true definition of 'soon come' here in Jamaica, arrived on our green shores later than expected, but was worth the wait for all those who finally got the opportunity to meet him face to face.
Starting his formal address with "Greetings massive" and "wah gwaan" confirmed his engaging personality, which was followed by cheers of approval from his attentive audience.
Overwhelmed by the warmth he has received thus far and humbled by the turn-out for his official welcome reception, he noted that Jamaica's greatest asset is its people.
In his speech, he said that he is looking forward to the existing partnership between both countries, and to bringing in more investments, creating more jobs, and creating the proper environment to foster growth and development. He described the Peace Corps, who work assiduously on education, infrastructure and community here in Jamaica, as true ambassadors and endeavours to visit all 14 parishes of Jamaica through their organisation.
He concluded the 10 minutes of formalities with "Big up Jamaica."
Thereafter, all returned to their regular programming of meeting and greeting as he continued getting to know those who came out to welcome him. Some paused from the chatter to indulge in the mouth-watering offerings readily available at several stations within the room.
