Though most lights were out across the island last Saturday night, things were bright at the Jamaica Pegasus hotel in New Kingston as well-wishers and fashion enthusiasts came out to support the beautiful ladies vying for the title of Miss Universe Jamaica 2016.

With this being one of the most highly anticipated pageants of the year, attendees were excited to strut the red carpet, wave posters of their favourite contestants, and enjoy the opportunity to see the beauties rock their best smiles and attempt to prove themselves worthy of the title.

The esteemed judges chosen to hand-pick the best of the best to represent Jamaica in the Miss Universe pageant in the Philippines later this year, were Sophia Frazer-Binns, Dr David Lambert, Nashauna Lalah, Raymond Pryce, Catherine Goodall, Carolyn Yapp, Sanya Hughes and Romae Gordon.

Beauty, Fashion and Wellness

Before host Terri-Karelle Reid started guiding the audience through the night's proceedings, the contestants graced the stage in a spirited opening number highlighting the night's James Bond theme.

Soon it was time for the beauties to show off their toned bodies in designer swimwear. Based on the prejudging, 12 contestants were chosen to move forward. Moving on to the evening wear segment of the show were: Bianca Cisneros-Wynter, Candice McLeod, Denyque Welds, Shadae Scott, Krystal Pitt, Crystal Hardy, Liana Chung, Isabel Dalley, Renae Roye, Dujonette 'DJ' Smith, Shanice Clarke and Tamoya Lindo.

The Dermoth Williams Couture pieces captivated the audience. The 12 contestants were cut to six, with DJ Smith, Krystal Pitt, Bianca Cisneros-Wynter, Tamoya Lindo, Renae Roye and Isabel Dalley having a little chit-chat with Reid.

After much deliberation by the judges the top three of Krystal Pitt, Isabel Dalley and Renae Roye were made to face the dreaded question-and-answer segment. They all faced the same question: Do you think Usain Bolt should be made a national hero and why?

All made commendable attempts to impress the judges but there could only be one winner.
