Dom Rep celebrates 174 in style
Last Tuesday, The Jamaica Pegasus hotel in New Kingston played host to quite a diplomatic celebration. The reason? The 174th anniversary of the independence of the Dominican Republic.
Specially invited guests made their way to the 17th floor and walked into the elegant Talk of the Town, where they were warmly greeted by the evening's host, the gracious Ambassador JosÈ Tom·s Ares Germ·n.
The mingling and laughter in the room paused when the ambassador took to the stage to thank everyone for turning out to celebrate the anniversaryof his country's independence. Sharing highlights of his country's achievements, he lauded Jamaica for the strides made in strengthening bilateral relations with his nation. This was followed by a toast alongside Minister of Tourism Ed Bartlett, giving way to his address from the Government of Jamaica.
He apologised for the absence of Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Kamina Johnson Smith, before highlighting the countries' similarities and hopes for improving the already wonderful relationship that they share.
Official proceedings aside, guests indulged in a taste of culture with sweet and savoury offerings from the Dominican Republic before working it off on the dance floor. They enjoyed additional treats of rum and cigars, personally handed out by the ambassador.
